Recording Studio

The Shain Library Recording Studio (Shain 309) provides a quiet space for audio and video recording, videoconferencing, and post-production work. The space can be reserved for two hour blocks during regular Shain Library hours, and training is available by appointment during regular office hours. The studio is made possible by a generous donation from Mark Iger ‘75.

Hardware and Software

The studio includes two microphones and three cameras – one for each of two participants and one wide view – connected to an ATEM Mini Pro Extreme video switcher. A green screen is installed on the short wall, extending the creative possibilities for the space. Post-production software includes Apple Final Cut, iMovie, Garageband, Audacity, DaVinci Resolve, OBS streaming software, Zoom, Rogue Amoeba Fission, Loopback, SoundSource, and Farrago. A detailed list of hardware and software is available here.

Training and Consultations

Training and consultations are available during regular office hours. We are happy to consult with faculty on the development of assignments and class projects that utilize the studio, in addition to providing training to students and faculty for the hardware and software. Email teachtech@conncoll.edu to schedule an appointment and get started!

Reserving the room

The Recording Studio may be reserved for periods of up to two hours during the library’s operating hours. Once you have a confirmed reservation, visit the Circulation Desk to borrow the key. Note that the key will only be checked out to the person with the confirmed reservation. The key must be returned to the Circulation Desk at the end of the reservation period.
